Graphics Samples
These pages present recent work in illustration and graphic design.
This image is the cover art I made for the April 2007 Special Edition of Oakland Magazine. The art is a digital photo and paint collage executed in Photoshop.
Lots of reference images were shot in Oakland on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The overcast light was perfect for my needs because it gave a nice diffused illumination to the scene with no harsh shadows. I then took the reference images and made a collage in Photoshop, blending the separate layers together with layer masks and digital paint. The effect is similar to a painting which shows simultaneous points of view synthesised into a unified composition. It recalls the experience of being in the city and looking about, up and down, left and right, absorbing the sights into one’s brain where it becomes fused into memory of an afternoon. The client was happy with it, and I think it turned out OK.
